Internationally Popular Films Of Hindi Movie Industry

 

Hindi movie industry refers to one of the film industries of India, where a lot of movies in Hindi language are made. Hindi movie industry owns the credit of producing the most number of movies in India. Some popular Hindi movies because of its rich concept have made its presence felt in the international arena by getting selected in the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Mother India is regarded as one of the most admired films in Hindi movie industry. Aurat, a Mehboob Khan film of the 1940 was made again into this well known movie. Depicting the social picture of early India, this movie had Nargis Dutt and Sunil Dutt in the lead roles. A poverty stricken woman living in rural India, in spite of all the difficulties she faces in her life, holds on to good principles and values.

But, to fulfill her promise to the landlord, finally she kills her son. In 1958, this film competed with four other foreign movies in the category of Best Foreign language films. Mother India was the first official entry from India in Oscars, which showed the societal set up in India after the independence struggle.

Salaam Bombay! became the second film to be chosen from India at the Oscars among other movies in Hindi film industry. Released in the year 1988, this film showed the lives of many street children living in Bombay (new name Mumbai). This film received various awards from international and national movie festivals. Montreal World Film Festival, National Film Award for Best Feature Film and the Golden Camera Award – Cannes Film Festival are some of the popular awards given to Salaam Bombay!, by this Mira Nair film.

Lagaan with Amir Khan in the main role was the third official entry from India to the Academy Awards. Released in the year 2001, the movie has the backdrop of Victorian age, where the British Government were controlling the Indian subcontinent. Lagaan is the story of unity of a village in India, which stands up to raise their voice against the taxation by the British Government. The film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, within a budget of 250 million rupees also had many British actors Made by Ashutosh Gowariker within a huge budget (250 million rupees), this movie featured some English movie actors too.

The fourth film to be chosen for the Best Foreign Language Film category was Water by Deepa Mehta, who was from India. With the backdrop of 1938 India, the movie explores lives of a lot of widows in Varanasi. Featuring some well-known actors like Liza Ray, Raghubir Yadav, Vinay Pathak and John Abraham, this film attracted the attention of the public.

Rang De Basanti, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, brought the present India to the silver screen through the story of a few students attending college. The movie brings to notice the evolution of the college students from being inactive to unfair governing system to changing the rules by sacrificing themselves. Youth of the country got influenced by this film, who wanted the system to change. The film became India’s official entry after facing a tough competition from other films.

Directed by Shankar and produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures (a division of Sun TV Network group), ROBOT stars Rajnikanth, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa in lead roles. The music of the film is composed by maestro A R Rahman and sound recorded by Resul Pookutty. Lyrics are penned by Swanand Kirkire.

The music rights of the film are with Venus Records & Tapes.

The film has been in the making for over two years. It is touted to be the most expensive Indian film.
